2009/10 Washington Wizards
Former Detroit and Minnesota Head Man Flip Saunders agreed to a 4-year deal to coach the Wizards and looked forward to a high draft seeding. The team ended up with the #5 pick in the draft and chose to trade it to the Minnesota Timberwolves with Mike Miller, Randy Foye, Oleksiy Pecherov and Darius Songaila in exchange for Randy Foye and Mike Miller.
During the middle of the season, Commissioner David Stern suspended Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton for the use of guns in the team locker room. In mid-February the team, now was sitting at 17-33, traded Butler, Haywood and Stevenson to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Quinton Ross and James Singleton. They later traded Antawn Jamison to Cleveland for Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Al Thornton from the Clippers. Ilgauskas would rejoin the team on March 23, signing a 1-year deal.
2008/09 Washington Wizards
After finishing with a 43-39 record in 2007/08, the franchise felt that they were about to turn the corner with their young team. Management resigned Antawn Jamison to a 4-year deal and Gilbert Arenas to a 6-year contract. They also traded Guard Antonio Daniels to New Orleans and a conditional 1st round pick to Memphis for guards Mike James and Javaris Crittenton.
Ten games into the season (after a 1-10 start) the franchise fired Head coach Eddie Jordan and replaced him with Ed Tapscott. The team would never recover and suffered their worst season in franchise history finishing 19-63.
